Cruise into the Christmas spirit and sing along with the NZSO in Christmas Pops – Mainland Tour

This December, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra will celebrate Christmas from both ends of the country – at the same time!

Christmas Pops covers 11 centres in eight days. As one select NZSO ensemble performs in Gore as part of The Mainland Tour, the other performs on the same night in Hastings as part of The Heartland Tour.

When Mainlanders are led through memorable Christmas carols in Balclutha, Alexandra and Wanaka; Heartlanders will be singing popular festive favourites in Rotorua, Tauranga, and Manukau.

The joy of Christmas and the beauty of the spring and summer seasons have inspired a wonderful array of music over the centuries, providing a rich source of ever-popular music. Both tours will enjoy works celebrating these festive themes including the overture from Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream Op. 61 No. 1, not to mention heart-warming Christmas carols Away in a Manger, Silent Night, O Holy Night, O Come All Ye Faithful, Hark the Herald, and The First Noel.

Join popular mezzo-soprano Helen Medlyn, conductor Alexander Briger, and a select group of NZSO musicians in The Mainland Tour for an evening full of beautiful music and carol singing for the whole family.

With well-loved orchestral pieces including Corelli’s ‘Christmas Concerto’, and the final movement of Haydn’s bustling London Symphony’, this is the perfect way to capture the happy spirit of the festive season with those you love.

Nothing brings people together like Christmas so make the most of this extensive double tour, in association with National Tour Partner Sunday Star Times.
