The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra is a National touring orchestra of world class standard committed to enriching the classical music world through leading edge performances of both new music and core symphonic repertoire.
Our versatile orchestra has worked with many renowned conductors and soloists to critical acclaim, including Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Lang Lang, Håkan Hardenburger, Howard Shore, Natalie Clein, Vladmir Ashkenaky and Dmitri Sitkovetsky.
In addition to a very busy concert and touring schedule, the NZSO is New Zealand’s premiere recording orchestra, selling over half a million CD’s internationally.

Recording with the NZSO
The NZSO has a strong recording history on disc with Naxos and on screen in films including The Lord of the Rings and King Kong. Together the NZSO and the new state of the art post production facilities – Park Road Post – make Wellington a competitive choice for recording scores of uncompromisingly high standard. The NZSO prides itself on being a dynamic contributor to the performance of contemporary symphonic repertoire. Each year we commission and premiere works by both New Zealand and international composers to high acclaim. We also run the annual Todd Young Composer’s Award, ensuring that upcoming young composer’s get the opportunity to hear their works played by a world class orchestra.
