London-born Oliver Johnston is a graduate of The Royal Academy Opera Program. He was a member of the 2016 Young Singers Project at the Salzburg Festival received 3rd Prize at the All-Russian Nadezhda Obukhova Young Opera Singers’ Competition. He is a recipient of an International Opera Awards Foundation Bursary.

Operatic performances include Melchior in the world premiere of Wakening Shadow with the London Philharmonic Orchestra under Vladimir Jurowski and the tenor sailor Billy Budd in New York with Sir Mark Elder for Glyndebourne Opera. Other operatic appearances include Stroh Intermezzo and Fenton Falstaff for Garsington Opera; Rinuccio Gianni Schicchi, Levko May Night and Sellem The Rake’s Progress for Royal Academy Opera; Novice Billy Budd for Opera North and at the Aldeburgh Festival; Belmonte Die Entführung aus dem Serail for West Green Opera; Mr Rushworth Mansfield Park for the Grange Festival; Narraboth Salome for Opera North and Mendelssohn’s Elijah in Potsdam.

A keen recitalist, Oliver has performed at Kings Place; Somerset House; St Martin-in-the-Fields; Handel House Museum and the London Handel Festival with Laurence Cummings; the Chichester Festival and Wigmore Hall debut with The Song Circle. Oliver also appears regularly with the distinguished guitarist Michael Butten as the Arien Duo, performing a wide-ranging repertoire for voice and guitar/lute.

Concert appearances include Second Nazarene Salome for the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra under Kirill Karabits, Mozart Mass in C minor at Chichester Cathedral, Verdi Requiem at Cheltenham Town Hall, Beethoven Symphony No. 9 with the Armenian Philharmonic orchestra, Mozart Requiem at Symphony Hall Birmingham, Carmina Burana with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and his debut at the Opéra national de Bordeaux in Handel’s Messiah. He appeared at the 2016 Last Night of the Proms in Vaughan-Williams’ Serenade to Music under Sakari Oramo.

Recent and future engagements include Dvorak’s American Flag Cantata with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, Carmina Burana with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Beethoven Symphony No.9 with the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra, Handel’s Messiah with the Royal Northern Sinfonia and the Cologne Philharmonie, Pairs in Offenbach’s La Belle Hélène in London and house debuts at Teatro Real Madrid and Opera di Roma as High Priest Idomeneo. Further future engagements include concerts with the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra and his house debut at Opera North.
