10.30am – 11.30am: Instrument Petting Zoo and NZSO Storytime live.

Children of all ages can explore the Instrument Petting Zoo, getting up close with various instruments and musicians of the Orchestra.

This will be followed by a performance of NZSO Storytime live – a selection of kiwi children’s book favourites accompanied live by members of the Orchestra.

2pm – 3.30pm: NZSO Foundation Masterclass

NZSO Section Principal Flute, Bridget Douglas, will facilitate a masterclass in orchestral excerpts for flute with students from the University of Waikato. Join us to watch the next generation of performers learn from musicians of the NZSO and discover more about some of the wonderful instruments of the symphony orchestra.

2pm – 3.30pm: NZSO Foundation Masterclass

NZSO Section Principal Clarinet, Patrick Barry, will facilitate a masterclass in orchestral excerpts for clarinet with students from the University of Waikato. Join us to watch the next generation of performers learn from musicians of the NZSO and discover more about some of the wonderful instruments of the symphony orchestra.

4.30pm – 5.30pm: Tūhono - Connecting Melodies

Horomona Horo and Jeremy Mayall present a discussion and demonstration on composing for Taonga Pūoro. As long-standing collaborators and sonic explorers, they will share about moving beyond genre, style and cultural boundaries into hybrid sonic forms, and stories about the collaborative process.
