Mahler Symphony No. 7 in E minor
Continuing our Music Director Edo de Waart’s Masterworks cycle of Mahler symphonies, the NZSO performs what has been described as Mahler’s most seductive and glamorous work, while also his most enigmatic, radical and forward-looking.
Mahler takes the listener through an extraordinarily varied landscape of sound, with his distinct second-movement nocturne flecked with guitar and mandolin, evoking a stroll through a Mediterranean town at dusk.
Written while Mahler holidayed in his summer residence, Symphony No. 7 is an intoxicating pageant, full of inventiveness and subtlety, ready-suited for a dazzling interpretation by Maestro de Waart and the Orchestra.
The approximate runtime for this concert is 1 hour 20 minutes (no interval).
