Nicholas McGegan Conductor
with The Tudor Consort
No NZSO season is complete without our annual performance of George Frideric Handel’s revered Messiah. And as with every performance, there will be something new.
For 2018 we have acclaimed English conductor Nicholas McGegan, hailed as one of the finest baroque conductors and “an expert in 18-century style”. At home working with many of the world’s best orchestras, he also relishes new challenges. In 2017 he made history as the first conductor of the BBC Proms held in Yorkshire in nearly 90 years.
Messiah in Wellington boasts leading soloists including New Zealanders Madeleine Pierard, Kristin Darragh and Martin Snell alongside Australian tenor James Egglestone.
As soloists for our inaugural Messiah performance in Palmerston North, the NZSO is proud to partner with the Dame Malvina Major Foundation to present four award-winning young New Zealand soloists recognised for their artistic excellence.
The Tudor Consort will bring the chorus to life for both performances.
The approximate runtime of this concert is 1 hour 50 minutes.
This year we're proudly supporting The Wellington City Mission at our Wellington concert. You can bring along both special Christmas items and essential household items to donate before the concert.
