R Strauss Metamorphosen
R Strauss Four Last Songs
Beethoven Symphony No. 3 Eroica
Strauss’ Metamorphosen is often seen as an elegy to the destruction of German culture during World War II. Scored for string orchestra, Metamorphosen quotes the funeral march of Beethoven’s Third – a poignant reference to that touchstone of German culture which Strauss felt had been jeopardised by the awful violence of World War II.
Emma Pearson joins the NZSO to perform Strauss’ Four Last Songs. A principal artist at the Hessisches Staatstheater, Wiesbaden, in Germany from 2005 until 2014, she performed over 30 roles for the company to critical acclaim.
