Kempf shaped lines with delicacy and insight, yet it was the balance with an impetuous Beethovenian fire that lifted the performance of the third concerto on to a higher level - The Guardian

Freddy Kempf is one of today’s most successful pianists performing to sell-out audiences all over the world. Exceptionally gifted with an unusually broad repertoire, Freddy has built a unique reputation as an explosive and physical performer not afraid to take risks as well as a serious, sensitive and profoundly musical artist.

Freddy collaborates with the most sought-after conductors including Charles Dutoit, Vasily Petrenko, Andrew Davis, Vassily Sinaisky, Riccardo Chailly, Maxime Tortelier, Yuri Simonov, Alan Buribayev and Thomas Søndergård. In recent seasons, Freddy has worked with some of the best musical institutions including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, BBC Scottish Symphony, Philharmonia Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Ulster Symphony Orchestra, Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Russian State Symphony, La Scala Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, NHK Symphony, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and Dresden Philharmonic.

Freddy continues to build upon his play/direct appearances following successes with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, St. Petersburg Philharmonic and Korean Symphony Orchestra. In recent seasons, Freddy led several play/direct projects including a tour with the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra in Japan, performance with Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa and with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, which has led to immediate re-invitation for Autumn 2017.
A committed recitalist, Freddy has appeared on many stages including the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire, Berlin Konzerthaus, Milan Conservatory Sala Verdi, the Sociedad Filharmónica Bilbao, London’s Cadogan Hall and Southbank Centre, Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall, Sydney’s City Hall and Tokyo’s Suntory Hall. This season Freddy gives many recitals including at the Flagey Piano Days, Medici Piano Series in Brisbane, Utzon Music Series in Sydney, Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory, Seoul Arts Center and in the UK.

Current and future concerto engagements include appearances with the Taiwan National Symphony Orchestra, RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, an extensive twelve date tour with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra across the UK, a play/direct project at the Novi Sad Music Festival and a play/direct tour with New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.

A prolific recording artist, Freddy records exclusively for BIS Records. His latest Tchaikovsky CD, released in Autumn 2015, was received to great acclaim. In 2010, his recording of Prokofiev’s Piano Concertos Nos. 2 & 3 with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and Andrew Litton was nominated for the prestigious Gramophone Concerto Award and described by the associated magazine as “A masterful Prokofievian pair”.

Born in London in 1977, Freddy made his concerto debut with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 8. In 1998, he was awarded a third prize at the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in Moscow and was proclaimed by the Russian press "the hero of the competition".

Freddy will be performing with the NZSO again in September for the Pianomania concerts.
