New Zealand born conductor Hamish McKeich has forged an impressive international conducting career alongside a passionate loyalty for developing the repertoire of contemporary and experimental music. He has established an acclaimed partnership with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and served as the Orchestra's Associate Conductor from 2002-2006.

He performs and records continually with them to this day. He has performed in New Zealand, Australia, China, the Netherlands, Italy, England, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Armenia and Lebanon. Working regularly in Europe, Australia and with New Zealand's major orchestras, he has given over 100 world premieres of new works and is also chief conductor of the contemporary ensembles Stroma and 175East.

He has worked with many orchestras and chamber ensembles, including the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, ELISION ensemble, Metropole Orkest, Asko Ensemble of Holland, Sydney Symphony, Stroma, Orchestra Filarmonica Italiana, Adelaide Symphony, Armenian Philharmonic, Melbourne Symphony, Lebanese Philharmonic Orchestra, Queensland Symphony, 175 East, Auckland Philharmonia, Christchurch Symphony, Southern Symphonia and the EX Orchestra, amongst others. He has toured China as Conductor of the National Philharmonic Orchestra of New Zealand.

Hamish McKeich studied conducting with legendary teacher and pedagogue Professor Ilya Musin and also prominent conductors Valery Gergiev, Sian Edwards and Peter Eötvös. McKeich was a finalist of the Gergiev Festival Conductors Masterclass, under the guidance of Professor Ilya Musin and Valery Gergiev. He started his career as bassoonist, first learning off his father, Ross McKeich. At aged 19, he became Associate Principal Bassoon with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and thereafter performing in orchestra's in Britain and Holland.

Further to his orchestral and ensemble concert performances he has worked in collaboration with many varying artists of differing genres including choreographer Graeme Murphy and Stephanie Lake, Simon O’Neill, Serj Tankian, John Psathas, the Pointer Sisters, Marlena Shaw, Nathan Haines and Shapeshifter, amongst others. He has conducted and arranged music for feature films both in New Zealand and Europe and has also conducted live televised performances in the Netherlands and in New Zealand.

Highlights of Hamish McKeich's immediate upcoming engagements in the next few months include concerts and recordings with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, New Zealand Opera and Stroma, Auckland Philharmonia, Sydney Symphony, Melbourne Symphony, Adelaide Symphony, Tasmanian Symphony, West Australian Symphony and Queensland Symphony Orchestra’s and the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra.

In 2012 Hamish McKeich was awarded a Douglas Lilburn Trust citation for services to New Zealand music.
