NZSO NATIONAL MENTORING PROGRAMME

Every year experienced NZSO musicians work with talented and keen young musicians around the country to mentor them in orchestral music and orchestral playing.

The aim of the mentoring programme is for the NZSO to connect with young musicians who are considering further music study, or even music as a career.

These young music students pair up with NZSO musicians and receive a number of mentoring sessions coupled with NZSO rehearsals and concerts. Applications are welcome from young musicians aged between 13 and 18 who will be attending secondary school during the 2019 NZSO season.

• Students must have achieved Grade 5 standard or higher on an orchestral instrument.
• Students must be attending high school or the equivalent at the time of the mentorship (2019)
• The mentoring sessions will take place in the NZSO’s main touring centres.
• Students from outside these centres are welcome to apply but are responsible for their own transport arrangements.
• Applications will be assessed by a panel of NZSO section principals.
• Please be aware that short listed candidates may be contacted to submit an audio recording.
