Competition success includes winning the 2018 Lorna Viol Memorial Prize and ROSL Trophy for the most Outstanding Musician from Overseas at the ROSL Annual Music Competition, in 2017 the First Prize and the Bach Prize at the Gisborne International Music Competition, and reaching the final of the 2015 International Brahms Competition. He has performed recitals in venues including St-Martin-in-the-Fields and Milton Court Concert Hall, and has participated in chamber music festivals including the Mendelssohn on Mull Festival, the Cowbridge and Highgate International Chamber Music Festivals, and Musique à Marsac in France. In addition, Alex has performed in masterclasses to artists including Tabea Zimmermann, Lars Anders Tomter, András Keller and Thomas Riebl. Before joining the NZSO, Alex had performed trial periods as Principal Viola with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, and has performed with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Australian Chamber Orchestra.
