Pam was born in Guangzhou, China and began playing the violin at the age of 4. Pam went on to study at the Attached Secondary School of Xinghai Conservatory of Music in her home city. By the age of 16, she made her solo concert debut in Xinghai concert hall and competed in numerous national and international violin competitions including Yfra Neaman Wettbewerbs International Violin Competitions in Germany and the Wieniawski International Violin Competition in Poland, winning several significant awards.
In 1999, Pam was awarded a full scholarship to attend the Casalmaggiore International Music Festival in Italy and was invited to play a solo recital at the festival. Pam moved to New Zealand in 2002, studying at the School of Music in Victoria University of Wellington. In 2006, after a successful audition in Sydney, she was selected to participate the prestigious Pacific Music Festival in Japan, playing under Maestro Valery Gergiev. At this festival she also took masterclasses from the principals of Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic and main orchestras in US. Pam was appointed as the Principal First Violin (3rd chair) at the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra in 2007, before joining the NZSO in 2010.
In her spare time, Pam loves doing zumba classes and enjoys baking and decorating cakes for her friends and family.
