Vicky Crowell

Vicky studied as a Junior Exhibitioner Scholar at the Royal College of Music Junior Department before attending the Royal College of Music, London as a Bassoon Scholar studying with Andrea de Flammineis, Sarah Burnett, Martin Gatt and contrabassoon with Martin Field.

While studying at the RCM, she participated in Masterclasses in Germany with Dag Jensen, Klaus Thunemann and Sergio Azzolini. Following her undergraduate studies, she then went on to study at the Musik-Akademie der Stadt Basel, Switzerland with the world-renowned bassoon virtuoso Sergio Azzolini.

Vicky has had trials for bassoon and contrabassoon positions with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Royal Ballet Sinfonia as well as working with RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, and Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra amongst other professional orchestras.

As well as orchestral playing she was an active woodwind player in London’s West End deputising on musicals such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Theatre Royal Drury Lane and Gypsy the Musical in the Savoy Theatre up until moving to New Zealand. In these shows she specialised in quadrupling on bassoon, clarinet, bass clarinet and the baritone saxophone.
