Artistic Administrator

Reporting to the Head of Artistic Planning, the Artistic Administrator plays a critical role in coordinating all artistic information and artist needs and issuing and administering all contracts related to the artistic programme of the NZSO.

Founded in 1946, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra is the country’s national professional orchestra and one of the few touring orchestras in the world, performing in many cities and towns around New Zealand each year.

In addition to assisting the Head of Artistic Planning with planning concerts and other NZSO activity, you will also assist in artist negotiations as required.  Key accountabilities include issuing and administering all Artistic Planning contracts, and Commission contracts, preparing and administering the pre-concert talk programme, ensuring artists meet the relevant immigration requirements and amongst other artistic administration tasks, manage programme-specific events (e.g. Messiah), as agreed with the Head of Artistic Planning.  This role also has a key responsibility to deliver excellent interdepartmental communications for all orchestral activity.

It is an exciting time to join the NZSO as there is a lot on the agenda, with more focus on trying new activities and broadening our education and outreach. We are therefore seeking a self-starter who is able to deliver on a very busy role that requires excellent relationship management skills plus the ability to get the details right, and to contribute to the great work the Artistic Planning team is already doing.  

Person Profile:

  • A knowledge of classical music and orchestral repertoire is essential
  • Superior communication skills
  • Effective planning, project management and organisational abilities
  • Exceptional relationship management abilities with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Tertiary qualification in Music is essential
