Assistant Principal Double Bass (3rd Chair)

The NZSO is at the pinnacle of orchestral achievement in New Zealand and is recognised as an orchestra of international standing. We continue to grow and develop artistically, taking a challenging and varied programme of music to communities throughout New Zealand. One of the world’s oldest national symphony orchestras, we have charmed audiences with memorable concerts and recordings for more than 70 years.

We are recruiting for the position of Assistant Principal Double Bass (3rd Chair).

These auditions are open to local and international applicants.   

IMPORTANT DATES

  • Applications close: Monday 26 November 2018
  • Recorded auditions due by: Monday 26 November 2018
  • Live audition date: Tuesday 4 December 2018 (Wellington, New Zealand)

AUDITION REPERTOIRE

Audition repertoire will be published on our website before 1 October.

LIVE CANDIDATES

Live auditions will take place from 9.30am on Tuesday 4 December 2018 in Wellington, New Zealand. Candidates will be advised on arrival at the audition which excerpts will be required. The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra tunes at A440. Auditions will be unaccompanied.

RECORDED CANDIDATES

If you are unable to travel to Wellington for the live auditions, you may submit a filmed audition recording (must be video and audio).

Please note:

  • Auditions must be recorded unaccompanied
  • Recorded auditions must not be edited (other than cuts between excerpts)
  • Recorded auditions must all be recorded on the same day, in the same venue.

We recommend using a high quality microphone in a professional recording environment.

Submission of recordings

All recordings must be sent electronically using www.dropbox.com.The format must be one of the following:  .mp4, .mov or .wmv.

Each solo and excerpt should be submitted in a separate file, with filenames as per the Audition Requirements document.

If applying for both the Assistant Principal and Associate Principal positions, where solo or excerpts are on both Audition Requirements documents, applicants are permitted to use the same recordings of those solos and excerpts for both applications.

The Dropbox folder must include your full name and the position you are auditioning for, however please do not include your name anywhere within the recording files themselves.

Recorded auditions are due by Monday 26 November 2018. Only recordings that follow the audition requirements will be accepted.

FURTHER INFORMATION

The successful candidate/s will be invited to play for a trial period with the orchestra. You will be notified of the results soon after the audition date.
