Associate Principal 3rd Horn

The NZSO is at the pinnacle of orchestral achievement in New Zealand and is recognized as an orchestra of international standing. We continue to grow and develop artistically, taking a challenging and varied programme of music to communities throughout New Zealand. One of the world’s oldest national symphony orchestras, we have charmed audiences with memorable concerts and recordings for more than 70 years.

We are recruiting for the position of Associate Principal 3rd Horn. This position is open to local and international candidates


  • Recorded auditions due by: Monday 18 October 2021
  • Candidates to be advised of outcome by: Tuesday 26 October 2021

Live auditions will not be held for this position due to current travel restrictions. Candidates are required to submit a recorded audition.

Please note:

  • Auditions must be recorded unaccompanied and must be video and audio
  • Recorded auditions must not be edited (other than cuts between excerpts)
  • Recorded auditions must all be recorded on the same day, in the same venue.
  • Each excerpt should be submitted in a separate file, with filenames as per the Audition Requirements document.
  • We recommend using a high quality microphone in a professional recording environment.

Only recordings that follow the auditions requirements will be accepted.

The successful candidate/s will be invited to play for a trial period with the orchestra at a date to be discussed. Please note that due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the New Zealand border is currently closed to most people, with entry from other countries strictly controlled.
