Development & Events Executive

The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra (NZSO) presents a diverse range of concerts, education and community events throughout Aotearoa New Zealand every year featuring international and national artists spanning multiple genres. The NZSO has a series of exciting milestones in 2027 including an 80th anniversary and our return to the newly refurbished Wellington Town Hall. 


The NZSO draws revenue from public and private streams, with a focus on growing private revenue to benefit the NZSO’s activity output. We are recruiting for a dynamic fundraiser, events co-ordinator and relationship manager to join the NZSO Development team to drive this important revenue stream for the orchestra.   

An outward facing role for the NZSO which reports to the Senior Manager Development, as a relationship manager you will manage a portfolio of donors and corporate partners, and cultivate new relationships to benefit the NZSO’s individual giving pipeline and revenue goals. The role manages the donation process for donors through Tessitura, all servicing and recognition requirements in NZSO campaigns. The Development and Events Executive is also responsible for supporting the delivery of a strategic events programme including marketing and design aspects. The NZSO Development team’s event programme (predominantly in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch) is a vital and appreciated part of the team’s work with our supporters, and these range from hospitality events for small groups to major gala dinners. 

As a key stakeholder manager, you will be a vital point of contact and collaboratively drive the Development team’s major digital and print fundraising appeals with the team of four.    

We want to hear from candidates with exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and excellent attention to detail. Systems used in this role include Tessitura (training provided), Microsoft Office products, and Wordfly and we welcome problem-solving creativity to achieve utmost efficiency. 

  • Desired Skills and Person Profile: 

  • Event management from curation to completion

  • Experience in stakeholder relationship management and fundraising

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail

  • A people person with excellent networking skills

  • A creative and strategic thinker to drive revenue through appeals and events

  • Experience of creating projects within a budget

  • Using a CRM system (Tessitura experience would be a bonus)

  • Competence with Microsoft office packages (word, excel and power point)

  • Design package experience for bespoke donor communications would be desirable

  • At least two years’ experience in a similar role

  • An interest in the arts and classical music is desirable
