When do we collect your personal information?

We may collect personal information about you when you provide information to us directly, such as when you:

  • communicate with us by phone, face-to-face or correspondence or documents;

  • complete and submit forms for memberships, NZSO+, event tickets or other payments (such as vouchers);

  • apply for competitions, awards or other opportunities to work with us;

  • attend our events or follow or post comments on our social media channels such as Twitter.

We may also collect personal information about you from:

  • other organisations, entities or persons where you’ve given us permission to do that;

  • ticket agencies in accordance with the Privacy Policy of those organisations.

What do we use your personal information for?

We collect, hold and use your personal information to:

  • respond to your requests, enquiries or other correspondence;

  • process your application for any awards or competitions we are running;

  • process your application for any of our services such as memberships, events or NZSO+; 

  • process payments (including donations) received or made by us, and remind you of any payments that might be owing;

  • provide you with information about our events, and activities;

  • to comply with applicable laws and regulations;

  • run our organisation but only where reasonably necessary;

  • for any specific purpose which we’ve notified you of at the time your personal information is collected.

Can you choose not to disclose your personal information?

Yes, it’s your choice whether to disclose your personal information to us.

In some cases, if you decide not to provide the personal information we’ve requested, we may not be able to:

  • respond to your requests, queries or other correspondence;

  • provide the services you’ve requested;

  • process applications to enter competitions, awards or similar with us;

  • process payments you’re wanting to make.

Whom might we disclose your personal information to?

We outsource certain business functions to other organisations. Where we outsource such functions we take steps to ensure that the organisations we work with have appropriate information and privacy practices.

  • our related companies such as the NZSO Foundation;

  • organisations which provide services to us, such as promotion and advertising agencies;

  • government, regulatory and law enforcement authorities where required by law;

We may also disclose your personal information to anyone you’ve directed or authorised us to send it to.

What about cookies and IP addresses on your website?

Our website uses "cookies", which are pieces of data that are stored on your hard drive and contain details about your use of our website. Cookies don’t provide us with information about you but they track usage of our website so that we can enhance users' experience of our website.

We also use IP addresses to analyse trends, administer our website, track user movements on our website, and gather broad demographic data for aggregate use, which we may share with our partners and advertisers.
