GIFTS BY BEQUEST

Help the NZSO build on its rich heritage of excellence by including a bequest to the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra Foundation in your Will. It is an easy yet meaningful way to create a lasting legacy of music for future generations.

Your bequest, whether modest or substantial, helps the Orchestra to continue bringing quality performances of orchestral works to life and making them available for all New Zealanders to enjoy. Bequest gifts are invested as part of the NZSO Foundation Endowment Fund and generate income to provide ongoing support of the NZSO. Your bequest keeps on giving for years to come.

Your gift can be simply stated in your Will or codicil. The following wording is suggested for leaving a gift to the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra Foundation:

I give to the NZSO Foundation Trust Board, (% of estate, the residue of my estate, or sum of money, or description of property or assets) for general purposes, for which the receipt of an authorised officer of the Foundation shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my trustees.

Should you wish your bequest to support a specific area of interest at the NZSO rather than general purposes, please contact us. By learning what is important to you, we can suggest ways your gift can help the NZSO fulfil its mission.

If you already have your will in place, you can include a gift to the NZSO Foundation by writing a codicil. A codicil is a document that amends, rather than replaces, a previously executed will. It may add or revoke a few small provisions, or may change the majority or all of the gifts under the will. Each codicil must conform to the same legal requirements as the original will, such as the signatures of the testator and, typically, two or three disinterested witnesses.

You should consult your legal advisor when making a Will, or when adding a codicil to your existing Will, to ensure it fully represents your wishes.

If your assets are held in a Family Trust, you may give your Trustees a simple Memorandum of Wishes stating that on your death you wish the Trustees to make a gift to the NZSO Foundation. Your Memorandum can describe the gift in a similar way to that set out above for a Will.
