Beiyi Xue
First Violin
Beiyi has been a permanent member of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra since 2003.
Originally from Shanghai, Beiyi began studying the violin at the age of five. After graduating from the prestigious Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 1994, Beiyi became the Principal First Violin and soloist with the Shanghai Symphony before moving to Australia in 2000 for further study.
I liked percussion before I learned the violin, maybe because my father used to be a percussion professor at Shanghai Conservatory of Music. I often went to his percussion studio and tried to get him to teach me, but it didn't work, he wanted me to be a violinist!
While at the Griffith University Australian Institute of Music, she regularly played with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra.
An experienced chamber musician, Beiyi is a founding member of the Aroha String Quartet. Established in 2004, the quartet has quickly become one of the most sought-after chamber groups in New Zealand.
I use my spare time to manage my health and fitness, such as going to massages, pilates, and hiking. I think having a healthy body will help everything. And of course I enjoy food and wine with friends.
