Haihong Liu
First Violin
Haihong is a graduate of the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music in China.
In 1995, she won the China National Chamber Music Competition as a member of the Beijing String Quartet. With the quartet, she performed at numerous prestigious international chamber music festivals and competitions throughout Europe and Asia.
Since then, Haihong has served as the head of strings and chamber music faculty at the Xinghai Conservatory of Music in Guangzhou. In 2001, she moved to New Zealand, where she worked with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra as Sub-Principal First Violin.
In 2002, she joined the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra First Violin section.
An early highlight with the Orchestra includes the NZSO European tour in 2010 and our appearance at the Vienna Musikverein.
As a founding member of The Aroha String Quartet, Haihong has enjoyed touring chamber music concerts across New Zealand since 2004. Additionally, she has been organising the annual International ASQ Chamber Music Academy in Wellington since 2015.
