Rebecca Struthers

First Violin

Supported by Peter & Juliet Rowe

Born in Nelson, Rebecca won an Associated Board Scholarship to study at London's Royal Academy of Music, where she graduated in 1985.

After completing her studies, Rebecca spent several years freelancing with orchestras and chamber groups throughout Europe and the UK before returning home to join the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra in 1991.

With a passion for both contemporary and early music, she has performed with Stroma and, more recently, has explored both Classical and Baroque chamber music on historical instruments.

Rebecca loves to coach young chamber ensembles and is the leader of the Chiesa Ensemble, a group established over a decade ago to accompany Wellington choirs performing sacred works.

She is married to Malcolm Struthers, a double bass player in the NZSO.
