2025 MFA Intern
Master of Fine Arts (Creative Practice) in Orchestral Studies
Leo Read Trombone
Leo Read has been performing music since the age of six. He started learning piano at that age, and picked up the trombone when he was twelve. Growing up, piano was definitely the main focus—until trombone began opening doors. After winning various competitions and getting the chance to play in some amazing concerts, trombone naturally became his main priority and passion.
Music has always been Leo’s biggest goal and dream, and it continues to be the central focus of his life.
Over the years, he has performed in a wide range of concerts and musical groups, including the Avondale College Production Band, Stravinsky Octet, Tauranga Chess Production Band, Trident High School Jazz Band, Big Band, and Production Band, the Whakatāne Community Orchestra, E.B.O.P. Brass Band, Wellington Brass Band, the National Youth Brass Band, and the National Secondary Schools Brass Band.
He is currently a casual member of Orchestra Wellington—and, most excitingly, an intern with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.
