Alex Xuyao Bai performs in Emerging Artists.

Alex Xuyao Bai is a 13-year-old Year 9 student at Dilworth School in Auckland. His current piano teacher is Stephen De Pledge. He started learning piano performance in 2016 with Tianhui Zhang in California. He has also learnt from Able Zhu and Bryan Sayer in Auckland, Michael Endres in Christchurch, and Xin Wang in Germany. 

Alex has won numerous prizes in many local and international competitions. He was the youngest semi-finalist of the Lewis Eady National Piano Competition in 2022 and performed as a soloist with NZSO in April 2023. He held solo piano recitals in October and December 2023 in Auckland, and January 2024 in Aachen, Germany. 

Alex is keen on chamber music as well and enjoys performing for retirement villages in Auckland with his friends. He plays the clarinet and violin in his spare time. Basketball is his favourite sport.
