Rachmaninov Symphony No. 2

Aotearoa New Zealand’s best young orchestral musicians unite to form the NZSO National Youth Orchestra 2025, under the direction of Canadian conductor Adam Johnson.

Madison Horman, 2024 Lexus Song Quest semi-finalist, joins the NYO to perform 4 Lieder Op. 27 by Richard Strauss. Written as a wedding present to Strauss’s wife, soprano Pauline de Ahna, these songs are the perfect vehicle for Horman, herself a young soprano fresh from study at the Royal Academy of Music.

NYO will also perform glacier, a new work from NZSO NYO 2025 Composer-in-Residence Luka Venter, Strauss’s saucy and audacious Don Juan, and Rachmaninov’s Second Symphony, by turns moody, ebullient, playful, and passionate.
