Prokofiev Piano Concerto No. 3
Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 4
Prokofiev’s Third Piano Concerto, begun in 1913, was written at a time of war. Nevertheless, this music remains enticingly puckish, witty and brilliant — the perfect showcase for our astonishing young prodigy Shan Liu. Previously an NZSO Emerging Artist, he was the featured soloist for the 2024 NZSO National Youth Orchestra. Liu is a testament to the wonderful and important work our Education team achieve.
Tchaikovsky’s magisterial Fourth Symphony, from its foreboding opening fanfare to its galvanising finale, takes us on an epic journey, from fear of destiny to the glowing triumph of hope.
