Experience four distinctive musical worlds in one beautifully balanced programme. Music Director Emeritus James Judd opens with Beethoven’s fierce and uncompromising Grosse Fuge, expanded for string orchestra in Weingartner’s arrangement. NZSO Section Principal Trumpet Michael Kirgan then takes centre stage in Haydn’s sparkling Trumpet Concerto, a work filled with wit, elegance and brilliant virtuosity.
A new commission by acclaimed Aotearoa composer Leonie Holmes brings a contemporary New Zealand voice to the tour, before Mozart’s Symphony No. 38, Prague, provides a grand and exhilarating finale.
