And other Celtic surprises
Journey across oceans, generations and musical traditions with legendary Celtic virtuoso Carlos Núñez. Renowned for collaborations from Jordi Savall to The Chieftains, Núñez joins the NZSO on pipes and flutes in a programme where classical mastery meets living Celtic tradition.
Mendelssohn’s evocative Scottish Symphony conjures windswept landscapes and ancient echoes, while the New Zealand premiere of Beethoven’s Celtic songs reveals familiar melodies in vivid new colours for traditional instruments and orchestra. Music Director Emeritus James Judd leads an unforgettable finale as a spectacular ensemble of Aotearoa pipers, led by national champion Brendon Eade, joins the full force of the NZSO.
When the pipes rise above the orchestra, the effect is elemental: raw, stirring and unmistakably alive. A celebration of heritage, energy and musical connection.
