Ravel Mother Goose Suite
Dvořák Romance in F minor
Sibelius Symphony No. 1
Travel from a storybook garden to the wide northern landscapes of Finland in this richly expressive programme led by NZSO Concertmaster Vesa-Matti Leppänen.
Ravel’s enchanting Mother Goose Suite opens a world of fairy tales in music of delicacy, wit and radiant orchestral colour. Violinist Malavika Gopal then takes centre stage in Dvořák’s tender Romance in F minor, a work whose flowing lyricism showcases the violin at its most warm and heartfelt.
Sibelius’ Symphony No. 1 completes the journey with music of elemental power—its haunting clarinet opening, surging strings and bold brass revealing a composer already discovering his unmistakable voice. Intimate, dramatic and full of vivid atmosphere, this concert places NZSO musicians in the spotlight and brings together three distinctive musical storytellers.
