Step inside the luminous sound world of Mozart’s Gran Partita, one of the great masterpieces for wind ensemble.
Written for 13 players, this expansive serenade combines the intimacy of chamber music with an almost orchestral richness, moving from spirited marches and elegant dances to an Adagio of breathtaking stillness and beauty. Each instrument becomes a distinct character as oboes, clarinets, basset horns, bassoons, horns and double bass converse, blend and shine.
The programme also features Jean Françaix’s Musique pour faire plaisir—music written, as its title promises, “to give pleasure”. Light-footed, witty and full of Gallic charm, it provides a playful counterpart to Mozart’s generosity and depth.
