Orpheus Choir

Choir

The Orpheus Choir of Wellington, often referred to as “the mighty Orpheus”, is renowned for bringing the big choir experience to life: dramatic, spectacular, and emotionally charged performances of stunning choral music. The choir performs across a wide range of events, from its own sell-out concerts to festivals and even the occasional pop collaboration. Many of these performances are recorded and broadcast by RNZ Concert, reflecting the choir’s standing as one of Aotearoa’s leading choral ensembles.

Formed in 1947, Orpheus Choir Wellington is proud to be the custodian of some of the greatest music ever written, bringing it to life for contemporary audiences of all ages. Its diverse and sometimes surprising repertoire spans the most beloved choral works through to rarely performed masterpieces and contemporary Māori waiata. The choir is also a familiar presence at civic and community events, and is proud to be part of New Zealand’s performing arts community.
