Launch into the NZSO’s Cosmic Festival with the revolutionary music that shaped Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.
André de Ridder conducts an extraordinary orchestral journey from the mysterious origins of humanity to the glittering movement of planets. Ligeti’s dense, mesmerising Atmosphères and luminous choral work Lux Aeterna, performed with Supertonic, seem to suspend time itself. Johann Strauss II’s The Blue Danube turns space travel into an elegant celestial waltz, while Khachaturian’s haunting Adagio brings stillness and wonder.
The concert culminates in Richard Strauss’ Also sprach Zarathustra, whose spectacular sunrise opening has become one of cinema’s most iconic musical moments.
Hear these masterpieces beyond the screen, in their full orchestral scale, and discover the limitless imaginative power of music.
